Preface
Human rights form the moral and legal foundation of a democratic, inclusive, and just society. In India, the constitutional ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity have long guided the protection and promotion of human rights. However, rapid social, economic, technological, and environmental changes have introduced new challenges that demand innovative legal responses and stronger institutional safeguards.
Human Rights in Contemporary India: Emerging Challenges, Legal Responses and Transformative Pathways critically examines these evolving dimensions within the Indian context. Bringing together contributions from scholars, researchers, legal practitioners, policymakers, and academicians, the volume explores contemporary human rights concerns while evaluating the effectiveness of constitutional, legislative, and judicial mechanisms in addressing them.
The chapters examine a broad range of emerging issues including digital privacy, artificial intelligence, gender justice, environmental protection, migration, climate change, displacement, discrimination, access to justice, and social inclusion. Collectively, they demonstrate the continuing role of law as an instrument of social transformation and human empowerment.
This volume is founded on the belief that protecting human rights requires continuous engagement with emerging realities while strengthening democratic institutions and legal safeguards. It seeks to foster meaningful dialogue on the relationship between human rights, governance, technology, sustainable development, public policy, and social justice.
The editors express sincere gratitude to all contributors, reviewers, academic institutions, and colleagues whose support made this publication possible. It is hoped that this book will serve as a valuable resource for students, researchers, academicians, legal professionals, policymakers, and all those committed to advancing human rights in India.
As India continues its journey toward inclusive and sustainable development, the protection of human rights remains fundamental to realizing constitutional values and democratic aspirations. The editors hope this volume will encourage critical reflection, informed debate, and constructive action toward building a more equitable, just, and humane society.
