Preface
Physics forms the foundation of Nautical Science and plays a crucial role in understanding ship operations,
marine navigation, and ocean-related phenomena. This book has been prepared to meet the academic requirements
of Maritime Education students as prescribed by maritime universities and training institutions.
Part I focuses on Fluid Mechanics and Acoustics & Ultrasonics. Topics include buoyancy, ship stability,
sound propagation, ultrasonic generation, and marine applications such as SONAR and depth measurement.
The content is presented systematically with simple mathematics, diagrams, solved examples, and review questions.
This book serves as a textbook for undergraduate students and a reference for faculty members.
Suggestions for improvement are welcome.
